SAPS Selection Process for Police Trainees Involves Rigorous Assessments

Cape town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) is currently progressing through the selection process for 5,500 new police trainees. Thousands of applicants are still in the initial phase, which involves psychometric and integrity testing assessments.

According to South African Government News Agency, the SAPS is conducting this process across all nine provinces. The selection process includes multiple phases, such as physical fitness evaluations, vetting, and medical examinations to ensure the enlistment of only the most suitable candidates. Preference will be given to applicants holding a tertiary qualification at NQF level 6 or higher, as well as those with a driver’s license, although all young individuals meeting the basic requirements were encouraged to apply.

On the closing date, 18 July 2025, SAPS received over a million applications, with 334,765 of these being graduates possessing qualifications in policing, law, forensic investigation, and other related fields. SAPS advises all applicants to remain patient as recruitment teams will communicate with suitable candidates. Training is slated to begin in 2026, with the exact commencement date to be announced later.
