Uncle gets life behind bars for raping his niece (6)

The Northern Cape Provincial SAPS Management hailed the Investigating officer, Warrant Officer Caren Nel, from the John Taolo Gaetsewe, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS), National Prosecuting Authority including Department of Justice for exceptional investigation and successful prosecution which ultimately resulted to a lengthy jail term handed to a rapist.

In this instance, the identity of the accused uncle the rapist would not be revealed, for the mere reason of protecting the identity of the victim. The victim is biologically related to the accused. The victim is the niece, to the accused and she is a minor.

Earlier this week, Kuruman Regional Court sentenced a 33-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his niece. During 2015 August the uncle the rapist accosted his 6-year-old niece and raped her. The incident occurred at Nanana Section, Batlharos, near Kuruman. The girl just arrived from school and the uncle stormed into the room while she was undressing when he threw her on the bed and forced himself on the girl and raped her.

Coincidentally, a family member walked into the room, and caught the uncle red-handed in action raping the girl. And immediately brought the uncles' shameful monstrous act to the attention of the biological mother of the victim.

Apart from the family member's eye witness testimony evidence in court, the accused uncle the rapist was linked to the crime through forensic investigation.

The Northern Cape SAPS Provincial Management, are pleased that the jail life term handed to the accused, shall serve as a deterrent to those who would be contemplating heinous, barbaric criminal acts against vulnerable individuals in the society.
