Three suspects arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Strand

Western Cape: Vigilant members of the Strand Police acted on information and arrested three suspects for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

On 2018-05-12 at about 20:00 Strand SAPS members conducted a search warrant at a premises in Jacobs Avenue, Erijaville, Strand and searched the wendy house on the property. They found one Taurus PT92 AFS 9mm Parabellum, with a serial number on and one magazine containing 15 live 9mm rounds under a cupboard on the premises. A 24 year old man was arrested. Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen in the Kraaifontein area.

On 2018-05-12 at about 22:45 a premises at Katonkel Sreet, Strand was searched for abalone after information was received. During the search members found two rifles as well as 10 live rounds (four pmp 22.3 rounds, two pmp 308 win rounds, two pmp 270 win rounds, one pmp 375 round and one 9mm round) and seized them. Two 33 year old suspects were arrested. Further investigation shows that the one rifle belongs to the SANDF and the other one to a private owner in Pinetown, Durban. Neither of these firearms had been reported stolen.

These arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates' Court on Monday 2018-05-14, on charges related to the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
