R1m worth of dagga seized during a multidisciplinary operation

King Williamstown: A multidisciplinary operation between several units of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal's DPCI on Sunday 10 February 2019 led to the arrest of two male suspects aged 38 and 42.

Information was received about four (4) vehicles that would be travelling through the Eastern Cape to Western Cape transporting dagga.

At about 20:00, a Toyota Quantum pulling trailer was stopped in Molteno. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the trailer was filled to the brim with thirty four (34) large compressed bags and six (6) ziplock bags containing dagga were found in the vehicle. The value of the dagga is estimated to be approximately R1m.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga applauded the team for their comradeship displayed during the operation. "Your fellowship and high moral standing is commendable. Through your dedication in solidarity towards a common goal you have reaped the desired results," said Gen Ntshinga.

The suspects will appear in the local magistrate court early this week.
