Off duty police officers praised for their swift reaction and the arrest of alleged hit and run driver

PRETORIA - Erasmia Police are committed to serve, protect, combat, prevent and to investigate crime. This was displayed by two members attached to Erasmia SAPS Detective Services on Thursday 16 May 2019.

The two Detectives, Sergeant Nkale Phaahla and Constable Marry Ngoetjane were on their way home shortly after 5pm when they spotted a stranded and vulnerable woman alongside R511 road following a vehicle breakdown.

Upon stopping to investigate, the victim informed the police that, She collided with a silver vehicle in which the driver fled the scene after the accident.

With the help of the residents, the vehicle fitting the description of the one given by the victim was spotted on R511 road and the Police stopped and searched the vehicle and a 42-year-old driver was arrested. The victim was taken to the local hospital for observation and later discharged

I want to thank members for going extra miles for prioritizing my safety and making sure that the suspect is arrested, said the victim

The suspect was charged with Reckless and Negligent Driving at Erasmia SAPS and released for further police investigation. He will appear before Atteridgeville magistrate court on Thursday 23 May 2019.
