The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) forces have handed over light weapons to the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) as per the Pretoria peace agreement.
Recall that the TPLF forces had handed over heavy weapons to the ENDF following the peace agreement.
Today's handing over is also part of the implementation of the peace deal.
The handing over program, which took place around the regional capital Mekelle at the specific location Lachi, was witnessed by African Union observers.
During the occasion, Ethiopian National Defense Force representative Brigadier General Deribie Mekuria said the handing over is part of the peace agreement.
He also confirmed receipt of the light weapons.
TPLF forces representative, Brigadier General Migbey Haile said that the handing over of the light weapons was made in line with the peace agreement, and "we are playing our role in implementing the peace accord."
He stressed that peace is the beginning and the end of their goal.
African Union Monitoring, Verification and Compliance Mission (AU-MVCM) member who witnessed the process, Brigadier General Tefo Sekole said the handing over is a showcase that the implementation of the peace agreement is well underway.
