Safer festive season operations continues to yields positive results

The South African Police Service in partnership with other stakeholders such as the Free State National Road Traffic Cooperation, National Provincial Traffic, Private Security, Departments of Health and Home Affairs and South African Revenue Services (SARS) continues to embark on joint operations around the province in preparation for the safer festive season.
More than 280 people and 54 firearms were confiscated during the operations conducted from the 25 November to 01 December 2020.
Within the arrests made, five (5) suspects were arrested for murder, three (3) for rape and 22 for possession of suspected stolen goods.
Different calibres of firearms were confiscated during searches throughout the province, with more than 50 ammunition pieces, 27115 grams of dagga, 254 full mandrax tablets, 19.4 grams of Chrystal meth and 7 vehicles.
These resulted in the arrest of 283 suspects.
Second hand goods premises and liquor outlets were visited including taverns and unregistered alcohol traders. 605 contravention of liquor act fines were issued and 881 332 litres of liquor were confiscated.
During the operation it was discovered that there has been an increase in the number of burglaries at private homes and businesses as well as robberies and assault with grievous bodily harm.
