GIYANI: The Provincial SAPS Corporate Communication and Media Liaison Officer, Warrant Officer Marobo Seabela visited Giyani Community Radio Station (GCR) to raise public awareness about the continuous Gender Based Violence (GBV), Femicide and Domestic Violence (DV) incidents occurring in the province on Wednesday 29 June 2022.
Giyani SAPS Communication Officer and Limpopo Men for Change Public Relations Officer, Constable Ridgewell Rikhotso joined Warrant Officer Seabela during the presentation that strongly condemned these pressing issues.
Warrant Officer Seabela encouraged the listeners to collaborate with the police to combat against these pandemics irrespective of the social status of the perpetrators.
In addition, Constable Rikhotso further sensitized the public about Domestic Violence (DV) that affect men and informed them about the Giyani Men's WhatsApp Group comprising of more than one hundred and twenty six members who support one another positively on daily basis.
Men were also advised to come out of the closet when experiencing abuse including couples who should seek assistance to external individuals such as social workers, pastors, marriage counsellors and traditional leaders who are voluntarily at hand to help.
Moreover, the duo also outlined the significance of participating in crime prevention forums such as Community Policing Forum (CPF), Young Civilians on Patrol (YCOPS), Community in Blue, Street Committee Patrols and Safety Forums.
The contact numbers of the Community Service Center (CSC), Giyani Station Commander and District Commissioner were shared with the listeners as the awareness campaign concluded.
