Mashatile to brief Parliament on efforts to address water challenges, high unemployment


Deputy President Paul Mashatile will brief Members of Parliament (MPs) in the National Assembly on Thursday, 31 October 2024.

He will address various issues, including government’s progress in tackling water challenges and reducing the high unemployment rate in key sectors of the economy.

The Deputy President will also update MPs on government’s efforts to build the requisite skills to meet the labour market demand.

‘Following his recent successful Working Visit to the United Kingdom and Ireland, the Deputy President will provide an update on the keenness of investors from the United Kingdom and Ireland to tap into various sectors such as the finance, energy, transportation and infrastructure development,’ the statement read.

As the Chairperson of the Water Task Team, the country’s second-in-command will outline critical measures undertaken by the State to avert a stage where an adequate supply of water becomes a crisis in the country.

In addition, he will take the time to highlight the steps taken b
y the Department of Water and Sanitation against some municipalities for various acts of pollution and environmental damage.

He will touch on the long-term strategies to address the widespread contamination of water and infrastructure challenges in municipalities.

According to the Deputy President’s Office, he will also give an update on the discussions around the proposed National Dialogue and on progress regarding the amendment of Section 25 of the Constitution to give effect to the expropriation of land without compensation.
