Man allegedly commits suicide after motor vehicle accident


The Namibian Police Force ( NamPol ) in the Oshikoto Region has reported the death of a 36 – year – old Namibian man who allegedly committed suicide by hanging after being involved in a car accident while under the influence of alcohol . According to the region ‘ s crime investigation coordinator , Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo , the incident occurred on Saturday at around 01h50 at Okavugu village in the Olukonda constituency of the Oshikoto Region . The deceased , identified as Shidhika Leopald , was an employee of the Northern Namibia ‘ s Regional Electricity Distributor ( NORED ). ” It is alleged that the deceased ‘ s lifeless body was found hanging by an electric wire around his neck , from the roof of his sleeping room at his residence ,” Ekandjo reported . He added that prior to the hanging , the deceased had been involved in a motor vehicle accident on the Olukonda road , where he allegedly hit a silver Toyota sedan . ” Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction , and the deceased was dri
ving a silver Toyota pick – up ,” Ekandjo stated . It is suspected that the deceased was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident . As a result , he did not wait for the police to arrive at the scene . Instead , after the accident , he locked his vehicle , abandoned it , and fled the scene . ” An hour later , the deceased ‘ s lifeless body was discovered in his bedroom at his home village , located a few kilometres from the scene of the accident . Only one female passenger in the sedan sustained minor injuries ,” Ekandjo reported . The deceased ‘ s body was transported to Onandjokwe State Hospital mortuary for a post – mortem examination . No suicide note was found and his next of kin have been informed of his death .
