The TICAD Human Resource Development Center for Businesses and Industry, a Kaizen project, will be inaugurated in October 2023, Japan Ambassador to Ethiopia Ito Takako disclosed.

On September 30, 2019, a ground breaking ceremony was held for the construction of the TICAD Human Resource Development Center for Business and Industry (TICAD-HRD) around the Headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa.

The construction of the center was covered through a grant aid from the Government of Japan to support the development of Africa by empowering the human resources, it was learned.

According to the ambassador, the center with about 70 rooms will provide training on Japan’s Kaizen philosophy to bring efficiency in industrial production and services provision for people from all over Africa.

The center has dormitories so that people can come from every part of the continent and take courses about Kaizen, she said.

“Almost 99 percent of the building has been completed and we are expecting all the equipment and furniture to be put into the building. What I hear is, sometime in October, they want to have the official opening of the TICAD Human Resource Development Center.”

The objective is to have more training to the people not only in Ethiopia but also the people in Africa through the Kaizen method, according to Takako.

TICAD-HRD will not only serve Ethiopia, but the goal is to make it a Center of Excellence for the region and the continent in training Kaizen consultants.

The building will serve as a center for employees of manufacturing companies, civil servants, teachers of vocational training schools and Kaizen consultants from the Ethiopian Kaizen Institute, it was learned.
