Car thieves arrested by vigilant police members

FREE STATE - Alert members of Fezile Dabi District have been on their toes working tirelessly in arresting suspects aiming to steal motor vehicles in two separate incidents.

The first incident was reported on Sunday, 17 April 2022. The members of Kroonstad Task Team were conducting their normal social crime prevention duties when they came across a suspicious vehicle. The suspect was driving from Maokeng towards Kroonstad with a vehicle without number plates. The members managed to stop him after a long chase when he realise he was followed by the police. Upon questioning the 42-year-old could not account for the vehicle.

The vehicle was circulated and it was found to be reported stolen in Kroonstad. It was later discovered that the suspect is also a parolee and has appeared before Kroonstad Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 19 April 2022 facing a new charge of possession of suspected stolen vehicle.

On the second incident on Tuesday, 19 April 2022 members of Parys Highway Patrol recovered a vehicle that was reported as stolen at Voslorus. The members received information that the car was travelling from the Gauteng Province towards Vaal Plaza. Members spotted the vehicle and three suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicle and will appear before Parys Magistrates Court, tomorrow 22 April 2022.

The Provincial Commissioner Lt General Baile Motswenyane highly applauded our members for their vigilance. "We cannot let criminals do as they please on our National roads thinking that we do not see them. We are aware that our province is the entrance and exit point to other provinces and we should stop them before going far," concluded the Provincial Commissioner.
