The Tunisian National Library (BNT) received a donation of over 1,000 books, letters and journals belonging to late historian Jean-Claude Garcin, a leading specialist in the history of medieval Islam. These publications had been donated by the Aix-en-Provence municipality (south of France) in keeping with the wishes of the historian and his wife, the BNT said on Thursday. Garcin (1934-2021) "remained loyal to Tunisia where, at the dawn of independence, he began his professional career as a lecturer at the University of Tunis from 1959 to 1961," the BNT added. This former professor emeritus at the University of Aix-Marseille is "considered as one of the leading experts in Egypt's history during the Mamluk period," the press release adds.
