Addis Ababa, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said all should support the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission for the benefits of citizens and the country.
Asked about the cause of the delay of the dialogue by members of the House of People's Representatives, the premier said that the commission has been working with great diligence.
The cause of the unhurried pace is the intention of making the process credible and inclusive.
Abiy stressed that "we have to help the commission in every way we can. Everyone should help them for their benefits," he noted.
According to him, a missed opportunity is regrettable.
Therefore, we must use this opportunity given to us by the National Dialogue Commission in an appropriate manner, he stressed.
Recall that the House of People's Representatives approved the establishment of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission on the 29th of December 2021.
The bill setting up the commission states that the commission is meant to “pave the way for national consensus and keep the integrity of the country.”
There are difference of opinions and disagreements among various opinion leaders and segments of society in Ethiopia on the most fundamental national issues.
It is, therefore, necessary to alleviate and resolve the differences and disagreements through a broad based inclusive public dialogue that engenders national consensus.
Conducting inclusive national dialogues is important to bolster national consensus and along the way a culture of trust and of working together on critical national issues
