Complications with maintenance work expected to cause widespread water outages/low pressure in Helderberg area

Widespread water supply disruptions

The City of Cape Town advises consumers in the Penhill; Gordon's Bay; Strand; Macassar; De Wynlanden; Sir Lowry's Pass Village; Firgrove; Faure; Somerset West; and Eerste River areas that maintenance work on the bulk pipeline servicing these areas has experienced complications, and that this will result in widespread water supply disruptions or continued low pressure, possibly into the evening.

Currently the Sandvlei/Macassar areas are without water, and other areas will likely experience falling pressure and eventually outages later in the day. Residents in these areas are requested to please keep water consumption to a minimum until repairs are completed to minimize the extent of the outages.

There are currently four water tankers deployed to provide drinking water in the affected areas, and the City is attempting to bring in additional tankers from other areas of the City. Currently, tankers are stationed at the following locations:

Macassar Village

Macassar Day Hospital (Musica Avenue)

Akker Street / Soekmekaar Street

Sandvlei / Kramat Areas

Disaster Risk Management are also on the ground and will distribute 500 x 5L water to:

The old age home in Musica Avenue

Early Childhood Development Centres

The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and assures residents that every effort is being made to restore normal water supply as soon as possible.
